A landscaping blog from the crew on the route. What we have learned keeping properties alive through Western New York winters, written down so you do not have to learn it the expensive way.
Most advice written about lawns and landscaping is written for somewhere else. Western New York has a short, intense growing season, a hard freeze and thaw cycle that destroys anything built shallow, and a winter that can drop several feet of snow on one town and miss the next. What works in a milder climate quietly fails here.
So this landscaping blog only covers what we actually deal with on the route. Timing, not theory. What to ask a contractor before you sign. Why the same failures show up on the same kinds of property year after year, and what it costs to avoid them rather than repair them.
Every article here comes out of a job that went wrong somewhere, usually not ours. A patio that sank in its second winter. A snow agreement that turned into an argument in January because nobody wrote down a trigger depth. A spring cleanup booked so late that the lawn never really caught up. Those are the expensive lessons, and there is no reason for a property owner to pay for them a second time.
We publish slowly and only when there is something worth saying. If you would rather just ask the question, the phone is faster than the search bar, and it costs the same amount of nothing.

Every year people call in late April wondering why the lawn looks rough. The answer is almost always timing.
